Evan Hsiao was born in Tainan County, Taiwan, in 1973. He holds a master’s degree in visual arts and a PhD in Chinese literature. His studies focused on late Ming dynasty paintings and calligraphy, as well as contemporary Western philosophy, both of which deeply influence his artistic practice.
Hsiao skillfully blends his knowledge and experiences to create works that merge antiquity with modernity, and Eastern traditions with Western thought.
His exploration of calligraphy—a classical Asian art form—serves as a platform for engaging with contemporary artistic languages, resulting in work that transcends cultural and temporal boundaries
